Virtual Field Trips for kids have become my answer to the “year with no field trips”. The best part about creating virtual field trips for kids is highlighting the time of the year, building on it with science, and taking it to the next level! I have a whole fall and Christmas list of virtual field trips for kids right here for you! First stop…. The Apple Orchard!!!
Virtual Field Trip to the Apple Orchard
We had such a blast on this virtual field trip right at school. Yes… our school is currently in person learning during this pandemic. You may be teaching only remotely, and this is perfect for your students, too! Our students actually “went on a field trip” to the apple orchard on their trip day by waiting for the bus (which was made of cardboard) and lunches in sacks! One of the best ways to visit the apple orchard is with a 360 video that allows them to drag and look around! Find the 360 apple orchard video here!
On this day, they studied the life cycle of an apple, Johnny Appleseed, and how apple orchards harvest apples. The vocabulary created during this trip was off the chain! So much fun! Don’t forget to taste apples and create an apple craft to really spice up the day! You can find a complete virtual field trip to the Apple Orchard from the No Wheels Field Trip line of products!

These trips are so much fun… before you keep reading about all the seasonal No Wheels Trips make sure you try one out! Take your students on a Rainforest Adventure! Grab it here before you read on!
Next stop… The Pumpkin Patch!
So many classrooms each year visit the pumpkin patch and bring a nice pumpkin back to school. It’s so very sad and disappointing not to be able to do this…… but take a virtual field trip with kids to the Pumpkin Patch instead! There are so many resources to create this day and make it just as special as the Apple Orchard trip!
Bring a few pumpkins to school or to your remote teaching station, and let them choose the perfect one. Include the life cycle of the pumpkin and some ooey-goey science experiments… how about a recipe or two? Pumpkin pie, anyone?? Find a great pumpkin patch virtual resource link here!
But if you want a complete compiled list of amazing links and resources.. check out the No Wheels Field Trip to the Pumpkin Patch!
A little more SPOOKY Virtual Field Trip in the Classroom to a National Park
This has to be one of my FAVORITE virtual field trips!!! Students have been just so engaged! In this trip, you can use Google Arts and Culture to visit Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. Google has really out done themselves with this app and all of its capabilities! Get a real bat perspective and go down into the caves!!! Whether you are teaching remotely or in person, go all out with your set up.. You can use butcher paper to create rocks and boulders to make a real cave back drop or entrance into your room! And… keep those lights off! Read a little more about how to really set up a successful virtual field trip in a previous blog from I Heart STEAM about creating the experience!
And of course… The No Wheels Field Trip line has this set up with so many links you may get lost in the cave!!!
Take a Virtual Field Trip to the Farm
Farmer Brown needs help finding that pesky Turkey!!! There are soooo many great resources for different types of farms virtually like a sheep farm, dairy farm, chicken farm, and harvesting in action! This field trip experience is a 5 day experience!!!!!! It’s perfect for the harvesting season, and FARMER BROWN… he can’t find the turkey for Thanksgiving! Will your class catch that turkey???? Find this No Wheels Field Trip to the Farm here.
NEXT… Take a trip back in time to the First Thanksgiving!!!
Scholastic has so many wonderful resources for you to see to get the idea of what the first Thanksgiving was really like! These resources are amazing! Check out the Mayflower, a Pilgrim Village, and the Wampanoag Indian Tribe! If you would like a few more resources set up… NO WHEELS RIDES AGAIN… to the First Thanksgiving!
And now… My Favorite Time of the Year in the Elementary Classroom
Yes… we will miss bringing a Christmas Tree back to school to decorate! With virtual field trips for kids… you can still go and make it a magical day. I can’t wait to add this trip into our day and make a few Christmas ornaments!! Do you know where the biggest Christmas Tree Farm in the world is? Find out in the No Wheels Field Trip to the Christmas Tree Farm!! Did you know they harvest them with…. HELICOPTERS! I had no idea!!! This resource comes complete with the story of the Littlest Christmas Tree!!!
Are you reading the Polar Express?
A new trend in classrooms across America has been to have a Polar Express Party…. why not add a Polar Express Virtual Field Trip! Students will get to see the Northern Lights in 360, see some real trains, and take a ride on the real Polar Express! Find out if your teacher is on the Naughty or Nice list for a little bit of fun!
One last magical Christmas trip on the way!!!!
Make your remote Christmas Celebration really special! I pulled out all the stops in this virtual field trip for kids by adding so many wonderful Santa related “cool stuff”. Ride in Santa’s sleigh, build a digital gingerbread house, create crafts and goodies…. and have you ever ridden on the Santa coaster in 360?? Here is that Santa Coaster link!
You can certainly find all the links you need to set up these trips in Google Slides! I recommend really watching through all of them to make sure they are engagement worthy…. but if you just want to click and go… grab any of the No Wheels Virtual Field Trips for kids! The best way to purchase them is through a Growing Bundle! Recently Bundle #2 came out and is currently priced so low it’s the best time to grab it!!!!
