February STEAM will fill up this short month! The month may be shorter, but it lacks no less in STEAM for the month! With Black History Month all month long, Valentine’s Day, Chinese New Year, and Presidents’ Day… this month is jam packed of February STEAM opportunities.
Did I forget the 100th Day?
Schools all over the US have been finally in school for 100 days! This 100 days is like no other… virtual, hybrid, in-person, and quarantined… Teachers have seen it all! For sure this calls for a celebration! I will be using a 100th day virtual field trip full of fun, math, and STEAM to view! Did you know that balloons actually can lift houses like that all familiar image from the movie UP? In the following 100th Day field trip… this is one project your students can view! So many STEAM concepts are studied!!
Chinese New Year is coming!
February STEAM just keeps getting better and better. The Lunar New Year presents us with opportunities to study a culture, traditions, geography, art, science, and mathematics. I couldn’t let this Chinese New Year go by without creating a jam up virtual field trip for the Chinese New Year!
It also inspired me to call on my STEAM skills and create easy STEAM that can be used virtually with literally no supplies except paper! Can you create a long life noodle which is one of the traditional foods eaten during Chinese New Year? Here’s what you need: paper (red if possible and scissors). Ask your students to create the longest noodle or cut possible with one piece of paper. Will they break the challenge? If you want more February STEAM, check out STEAM Ninja!!
STEAMing it up on Valentine’s Day!
And finally, let’s top off February STEAM with a “how do they do that” virtual field trip! I think this is my most favorite one. I love seeing a process in action! How does your mail get to you?
